bloomin' lovely...

I've been drawn to all things floral lately, maybe because Spring is just days away. You know how when you are thinking of something, it's everywhere you look? Every interiors magazine seems to have a feature on floral and botanical prints.

Fabulously fresh, yes?

Now I'm not about to abandon everything to go all shabby-chic on you...but a little injection of a good floral somewhere can really freshen things up. Even just a cushion or print will work, and a good vase of fresh flowers never hurt anyone.

Another one of my $50 buys...
I found the 4 seater extendable version of this table a while ago.
Sadly, it's sitting under my house with all the other pieces of op shop finds that I have nowhere to put in my tiny little house. I'm in the process of getting the house ready to put on the market to find somewhere a little bigger to accomodate my growing family (and expanding furniture collection)...

I bought this sideboard the other day...for $50 from a local op shop.
( The fact that it's 2 metres long and I have nowhere to put it is irrelevant)

From the Dark Side...

Lately I've been itching to paint a dark, dark wall. I already have a charcoal wall and a blackboard wall, I really love the drama of the darkness.
(Whoa, that sounded a little melodramatic)
I just love the ambience and moodiness of really dark shades.
Maybe my boys' room in navy? Another bedroom in more charcoal?
Whatever I decide, I found the pictures below uber inspirational.

Sneek peek...

A few photos from around my house.

I adore my deer. Bought it for $2 from the markets.

My writing desk was a recent purchase from Salvage,
 a recycled building materials warehouse.

I was feeling a bit retro/tropical when I found this painting from 1969.
I'm planning to have it re-framed in a big white chunky frame
when I get around to it.

A selection from my pineapple collection,
the white one is from Have You Met Miss Jones,
the others are op shop finds.

My Auria clock. I think I'm going to take the clock bit out of it
and just have it as a wall brooch.

Fresh white flowers. Always give a room a lift.
These were just $10 for the bunch and
they've lasted for ages.

Jasminda-Marie. Feeling quite at home on one of my Bholu cushions.

Clean White Love

I'm eagerly awaiting the arrival of these white delights from Have You Met Miss Jones that I've ordered...
Hi-tops. For my hi-top loving daughter.
Geez, who wouldn't want a white porcelain pineapple?
I know I do, I have a growing collection of pineapples though I'm not sure why, I don't like eating them, I think they just remind me of my warmer Queensland life.

book nook

I have so many books of all shapes and sizes in my home,
and some bookcases are kind of dated
and they can be very visually cluttering.
So for now my books are stored in buffets, cupboards etc.
But I've found some other interesting storage ideas...
I really love this. Everyone in my house loves to read and I've often found my kids under the blankets with a torch and a comic book. Lighting directly above the bed is uber-practical and non-offensive to the person next to you
who is trying to sleep.
You know who you are...

What a perfect place to curl up with a good book!
Or just sit on the chair in all its' glory.

Brilliant.

Whoa, what impact. Love, love, love.

bedside manner...

I've never really been into matchy-matchy bedsides. Of course sometimes it works and some styles need that symmetry and balance but I don't mind the odd mismatched lamp etc
I also like the idea of using unconventional pieces as bedside tables. There is just something refreshing about the unexpected...

Lighting is an important element of furnishing a bedroom, lamps needn't be expensive to be effective, however it is essential to consider the overall scale of the other pieces in the room.

I have always loved the idea of hanging a pendant
at this height next to a bed.
So simple, so effective.

back to work...

For my next trick...I need to makeover my home office set up. As the new year is well underway and my thoughts return to study and working from home, I feel the need to reorganize and re-do my desk and surrounds. Here's what I'm thinking...

But that's not going to happen in my tiny space.
So I need to think compact.
How clever is the use of the mirror?
A super organized little space.

And for my all time favourite desk, which is absolutely nothing like the antique timber one I have now...

sunshine & summertime

Maybe it's  because it's Summer and there is so much glorious sunshine around after a very  bleak Tasmanian winter...but I'm going through a yellow phase. This is a colour I have never really used in my interiors work, but at the moment it just appeals to me.

Used on a small scale, I think it creates such impact and looks really fresh. I'm now eyeing my charcoal & white lounge room, and wondering where I can add a splash of lemon...

and the winner is...

So my husband and I are going through the build vs renovate debate. I want to renovate our little 1960's delight of a home, he wants to build some amazing house on a hill. I was searching for some bathroom ideas when I came across this...

The Farnsworth House, designed and constructed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe between 1945-51. How cool is it?
It's only a one room weekender, but the concept is so inspiring and I love the simplicity of it - I think all that glass would be wonderful in our Tasmanian winter.

I think I might abandon my search for bathroom tiles,
and go on the hunt for a good piece of land...

my wish list...

Grant Featherston was an Australian self taught furniture designer from the fifties. His work is amazing and it's pretty much my goal in life to own one of his chairs. I've been keeping my eye on some auctions, they certainly aren't cheap but you never know your luck...

Featherston wing chair in teal = my dream chair

This 2 seater was released in 1953 and recently sold for $14,000.
So gorgeous.
